Hey All!
I just got back from a long week in Amsterdam. We arrived there last Sunday after a nine hour van drive to Holland. We had the opening ceremonies Sunday night followed by a dinner for all the teams in the tournament. Some of the countries that were in the tournament were Italy, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Sweeden, and Russia. Most of the teams had both players from their own countries as well as "import" players which are American players but also players from other countries as well. The competition was really good softball wise and it was fun to see how other countries play the game.
We had a few fans while we were playing in the Cup. Some of the baseball players that also play in Dornbirn drove up with us on Sunday. Some of the girls parents also made a trip from the States to watch the tournament and vacation a bit while we were in Amsterdam. Former catcher, Melissa Wood, also flew over for the tournament as well. The dedication that people show for their international teams and countries was really refreshing to see.
We did very well in the tournament placing third and recieving the bronze medal. The Dutch team got first place and the Italians got second. After the tournament was over there was a closing ceremony in which all the teams recieved their trophies and medals. After the conclusion of the closing ceremonies there was a big celebration in the club house at the field for all the teams involved. It was so much fun to meet the players from the other countries and sing, dance, and most importantly celebrate our sport.
Most of our American players left from Amsterdam to return to the States. They have classes that they have to begin so they couldn't stay for the remainder of the season.
I have only two weeks left over here in Austria. We will practice and have Austrian Leagues games this weekend. The Austrian League finals will be next weekend in Vienna.
For Now!
